A question we often hear: "Is Anyone Eligible for Hospice?" Hospice care applies specifically to patients who have received a terminal diagnosis usually with a prognosis of six months or fewer to live. Eligibility to receive care is often determined by the patient’s primary care physician and a hospice specialist. The goal of this care is not to cure the patient, but to increase the quality of life for the patient by optimizing his or her comfort and providing physical as well as emotional and spiritual support through a holistic approach to care. Hospice is, at its best, comprehensive care that includes the patient’s needs as well as those of the family; in addition to medical services, HomeCare Hospice includes practical counseling and support to ease the transition for the patient and the family.
